Macula (Yellow Spot)

The macula is a 1.5 mm diameter reigon in the center of the retina and is responsible for much of visual acuity. Many diseases can impair the function of the sensitive cells in this area.

Eyelid and Tear Duct Disorders

Tears are transported to the lacrimal sac through small ducts that start from the inner part of the eyelids and end in the lacrimal sac located adjacent to the nasal side wall. These ducts may rarely be undeveloped during infancy

Cataract

A cataract is the clouding of the lens inside the eye, cfausing it to lose its transparency. As the lens becomes clouded, the amountof light entering the eye decreases, resulting in reduced visual acuity as if looking through frosted glass.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a progressive disease of the optic nerve. In glaucoma, there is a reduction in the nerve cells of the retina (the visual layer), pallor and cupping of the optic nerve, and a decrease in visual functions and visual field loss. Untreated, glaucoma naturally leeds to blindness.

Diabetes

In long term diabetes vision may be affected to varying degrees. Prolonged high blood sugar levels intesify the impact on the eye. The walls of the blood vessels in the retina deteriorate, or new blood vessels develop.

Strabismus

Strabismus is the loss of parallel alignment of both eyes, resulting in the inability to look in the same direction. Skin folds at the inner corners of the eyes or the eyes being positioned too close together or too far apart may create the impression of strabismus, known as pseudo-strabismus.
