Brain and Nerve Surgery
Neurosurgery is the medical field that deals with the surgical (requiring operation) diseases of the brain, spinal cord, nerves, and the structures and connections that support this system. Our special Anatolia Hospital Neurosurgery Department provides comprehensive services in the diagnosis and treatment of brain and spinal cord diseases.
Services Provided in the Brain, Spinal Cord and Nerve Surgery Department
Brain Vascular Diseases
There is an endovascular or interventional neuroradiology and surgical (microsurgical) working group for the treatment of brain vascular diseases. Treatment methods can be applied separately or together, depending on the patient’s condition.
Brain Aneurysms
A brain vascular disease that manifests as a baloon-like swelling in the brain’s blood vessels, which can lead to sudden deterioration and fatal losses due to bleeding.
Arteriovenous Malformation
A vascular disease where the arteries and veins are seen as a tangled mass in the brain, prone to bleeding.
Carotid Stenosis
The narrowing and blockage of the carotid artery sections within the neck or brain. Stroke (paralysis) occurs with the formation of clots, and treatment must be performed within hours.
Brain Hemorrhages
The condition where blood leaks into the brain membranes or brain tissue
Brain Vascular Occlusion
The sudden interruption of blood flow to the brain due to a blockage in the brain vessels. This condition is known as a stroke or paralysis and should be treated quickly. The occluded vessel can be opened using endovascular methods, micro-surgery can restore brain perfusion, or the compressed brain tissue can be relieved.
Spine Diseases
Surgical interventions are applied for the spine’s traumatic conditions such as accidents and injuries, spinal canal stenosis, and slippage in the lower back arising from aging processes, as well as congential diseases. Additionally, diseases like lumbar and cervical hernia are treated by brain and nerve surgeons. In the ‘Minimally Invasive Spine Center’, micro-surgical and endoscopic surgical methods are aplied for surgeries like lumbar and cervical hernia and spinal stabilization (instrumentation). Rehabilitation services are planned together with the physical therapy and rehabilitation department. Non-surgical interventional tretments for pain known as minimally invasive pain interventions, are also pursued within this discipline.
Traumas (brain injury due to assault or accident)
Emergency interventions are applied without delay to patients with head trauma. Patients are treated in conjuction with the intensive care unit. Simultaneously, they are directed to physical therapy and rehabilitation programs. The aim is to eliminate life-threatening risks and improve the quality of life. The rapid diagnosis, identification, and care of all types of traumas (head trauma, spinal trauma, etc.) that may develop due to various accidents can be carried out by the brain, spinal cord, and nerve surgery team, which works in coordination with the emergency service and intensive care unit 24 hours a day.
